Shepherd’s Nursery

Hello world wide web!  I'm back- well, sort of!  Our little man is 2 weeks old today and boy has the time flown by!

Shepherd Wesley Hartsell was born on January 28th and was 9 lbs 3 ounces and 22.5 inches long!

I thought there was no way in the world he would be bigger than Sharpe when he was born, especially because Shepherd was born 2 weeks earlier, but goodness he came out such a big and perfect boy!    He is such a sweet and good natured baby.  We are well over here and simply adjusting to life with 2.  People weren't lying when they said it was hard work, but we are managing pretty well and figuring it all out:)  Sharpe is a great big brother, but honestly, could care less.  He is starting to come around and take more interest in "Baby Shepherd", but for the most part his 2 year old self is a little unphased.  It probably has something to do with the undivided attention he is getting from all of his grandparents right now;)  I'm lucky to have their help, but one little boy is getting more and more spoiled by the second!\n\nAfter getting 4.5 hours of sleep in a row(apparently there was a feeding in there somewhere, but in my exhaustion I slept right through it.  Super dad Joe to the rescue), I feel a little less like The Walking Dead and a little more normal and out of my newborn fog....kinda.  Go 4.5 hours of sleep!  We did take some newborn pics which I will post soon, but in the meantime I wanted to post Shepherd's nursery.  A huge thanks to my dear, dear friend Meredith Beregovski with Georgia Street Design for consulting with me on the nursery details, talking me off ledges when I couldn't find anything I liked and thought the nursery would totally stink, approving my purchases when I did find stuff I liked, helping me find the most perfect fabric and designing the curtains, pillows and crib skirt, and for in general just being one of the greatest friends a girl could ask for.  Ya'll, get on her schedule ASAP.  Some of her work is soon going to be on a HGTV show that begins filming in the next few weeks!  Her work is the real deal and I am so proud of her!\n\nHope you like it as much as we do!  The little guy is still sleeping in our room, but I know he is going to love it in here when he finally does sleep in his own bed.

I knew I wanted a "dog" theme, but pretty much everything I could find was totally kiddie or cartoony- which is definitely not my decorating style.  If it's possible, I reached the end of Etsy.  To no avail.   After I found the Dog wallpaper, it really all started to come together!  All of the furniture was from Sharpe's Nursery.  He got big boy beds so his nursery furniture was moved into the baby's room.   I knew the queen bed had to stay(after debating and debating and debating some more), so after making Joe move the queen bed to literally every wall in the room so I could see how it looked, we finally landed it back to it's original starting point- in between the windows(I'm telling you, I married a saint!). Oh, and Meredith said it would look fine there the whole time, haha...I'm SUPER fun to work with;)

After finding the perfect wallpaper and furniture for her child's room, the next step for any creative mom was finding the right accents to complete the look. That's where the search for ottomans for sale came in. A cozy ottoman would not only provide a comfortable spot to sit and read stories but also add a pop of color and texture to the room. With so many options available online, from plush upholstered pieces to sleek and modern designs, finding the perfect ottoman to match the decor of the room was a breeze. With everything finally in place, any mom can sit back and enjoy the fruits of her labor, knowing that her child's room is both stylish and functional.

New hardware for the cabinet from Anthropologie, and these cute little scottie dog hooks, too!

Joe and I found the rug at Tuesday Morning up in Asheville just by chance one day.  Love Tuesday Morning! Wish I lived closer to one...although that might be a bad thing.  The mirrors we already had, they hung over the bed when it was a guest room, we just painted them navy per Meredith;).

I love the fabric, curtain rods, pillows and crib skirt so much!  Meredith is the goddess of fabric.  As a fabric snob myself, I don't say this lightly, either!  She just has a way with seeing how everything is going to look.  She sourced these curtain rods, too!  I adore them!

Joe really wanted his Dog lick mat along with some "hunting dogs" dolls in the room.  After reaching the end of the internet for the 5th time, I was able to find some vector images of dogs for sale which I was able to turn blue and print as photos.  So proud of this little project! Oh, and Lindsey Lee Photography sells these frames in all sizes if you are interested!

The headboard was the same as we used the guest room.  Just tried to find a way to masculine it up a bit.

\n\nHope you enjoyed the tour of his room!  I am taking some time off this month and next to be with our sweet Shepherd and Sharpe, but am looking forward to getting some amazing things up on the blog, too.  Be sure to check back.  Oh, and happy snow days ahead (fingers crossed!).

The Nursery

The nursery is finally finished!  Well, like 99.9% finished.  I am waiting on 2 monogrammed pillows:) and we have a little bit of baby-proofing to do.  I am so happy with how it all came together!  I knew what I wanted it to look like in my head and had an overall theme - which was was "sweet baby boy" meets "nantucket" meets "sailing". I also knew I wanted lots of different textures without it being matchy matchy, while keeping the overall vibe very neutral.  Hope you like it as much as we do!

Here are some details:

*The crib was mine when I was little:) It was a brown Jenny Lind crib that we painted/faux finished.  I knew I wanted it cream with some sort of brown glaze.

*We did the cabinet the same color.  The cabinet we bought at the Metrolina Flea Market back in March.  It was also solid brown when we bought it.  On my facebook page I am going to put some before and afters of these two items.

*The changing table, which right now is hosting a diaper cake from one of my showers, came from Home Goods.  I knew as soon as I saw it that it was the missing piece we were looking for. I love that it has the cabinet space to put out some of baby's "specials".

*The glider was a wing-back/straight leg chair that came out of my great grandmother's house.  We chopped the legs off, added a rocking apparatus, and had a skirt put on it to cover the mechanics of turning it into a glider.  I found the fabric at The Depot before I even knew exactly how it was going to fit in the room.

*The frames on the wall are holding old navigation maps.

How cute is that picture of Joe below:)  He was 18 months in this photo, I think.

We painted the inside of the cabinet a random green that we just had at the house.  We are known for buying "oops" paint off the clearance rack, so this was a color just laying around.  I love the contrast. Knobs came from Hobby Lobby.

The crib had those old 80's clear acrylic wheels.  We took those off and I bought these other industrial wheels off the internet.  My handy sewing sister (yes, she is cool like that.  A lawyer that knows how to sew.) made the crib skirt out of a pack of linen ikea curtains. The little wall thing that has hooks came from a trip to Oak Island.  It was one long piece and we sliced it into two.

Darby loves her brother's room!  She can't wait for him to get here:)

We would now like to take this time to thank our sponsors:

*Lowe's *Home Goods *Metrolina Flea Market *Joe's Leveler *Carhardt *Sherwin Williams *Hillsville Flea Market *Darby *Pinterest *The Depot *Dumpster Diving *Sand Paper *Hobby Lobby *My Dad's Truck *Soft Serve Icecream(on church street) *and Pandora.

We couldn't have done it without you!

  5. Kristin Byrum:

This is the cutest nursery ever! That is one lucky boy to have such an adorable + stylish room. You are so incredibly talented with such amazing design skills!!!

This weekend was one of our last weekends off before we finish up our wedding season.  We originally had a wedding scheduled, but the super fun couple decided to elope!!  It did made for a nice break here in the middle of the chaos so we spent a lot of time getting our house organized for baby: cleaning out closets, organizing, making a Goodwill drop off and in general carrying out "Operation: Make All This Junk Leave My House".   We finally got Sharpe his big boy beds out of storage, got them painted and put up in his room- even though he is still in a crib that will transition to a toddler bed for the moment(I'm not quite ready to give up "baby jail").  It was nice to put his nursery furniture into the baby's room and start to get our head around what's going on in there. I can't wait to share Sharpe's Big Boy room!  The nursery never quite made the transition into this house the way it did when we designed it for the old house, so for me making up the big boy room was more exciting in this house than just putting his nursery back up when we moved.  All this to say, I think I may be more tired from all that we had going on around here this weekend than if we had shot a wedding!

This has been one amazing senior season!  My clients are absolutely the best!  Love making these seniors look like a million bucks(although that is probably the easiest job on the planet with how stinking cute they are).  Meet Kylee!  A total natural in front of the camera, I loved working with her! She wasn't sure about her "serious" face at the shoot, but turns out those were her most favorites and I have to agree!!!! What a beauty! Enjoy!

January 20, 2012

twenty eleven in review

Wow, what a year!  I can't believe 2011 has already come and gone!!  I've taken some time to think about this past year and what it meant in life and business.  Here is a little review of our year....and what a year it was:)

*We started our year by heading to Thailand to shoot Brett and Bae's wedding!  It was amazing!  You can check out photos from their wedding here and here. While we were there we traveled on our own for over a week.  Our travels to Bankgkok and Chiang Mai are at these links.  It was glorious!  It was a great time for Joe and I to get away before the craziness of wedding season began and we learned so much about the Thai culture.  Looking at these photos, it feels like an eternity ago!

Straight out of the camera images taken in Phuket.  No Photoshop, the water is THAT blue.

*In 2010, in anticipation of starting a family, we booked a light wedding year for 2011(which sounds crazy, but it was light compared to 2010).  We shot 18 amazing couples...turns out I shot all but 3 of these weddings pregnant!  We have the most amazing clients in the world and I am so thankful they trusted Lindsey Lee Photography to be a part of their big day!

*Somewhere in there I got pregnant...we kept it a secret for a very long time because my sister was getting married!  It was a busy, but amazing time!  We love Eric and are so glad to have him in the family, officially:)  You can also see LeAnn's bridal images here.

*How could I NOT mention "The Incident".  Darby got lost after some 4th of July fireworks and I about had a nervous breakdown.  You can read that whole heart wrenching story here.  It took us a couple of months to fully recover our sanity.

Darby's lost flyer that made its way all around Stanley County.

*In August, Joe started a new job.  While I have always been full time with the business, Joe is a weekend warrior for LLP and previously managed a manufacturing plant during the week.  In August he started teaching middle school history at a private school in Salisbury.  Let me just say this is a perfect fit for him!  It also helps he will have summers off...we are surely excited about this coming summer with Sharpe in tow.

On the job:)

*We did lots and lots of "junking".  This is a favorite past time of ours and you can catch us at flea markets and antique malls all over the southeast anytime we have a free moment.  I also made the yearly trek to Hillsville Flea Market where this pregnant lady out-junked 3 non-pregnant, non-swolen ankle ladies.  I pretty much pride myself on this fact:)  This year we searched for items for the baby's nursery, which you can see here.

Two items we found for the baby during our flea-marketing.

*I worked really hard on the first edition of the Lindsey Lee Photography Weddings Magazine.  I finished it up and had it published right before the baby came, so it didn't get any face time on the blog, but I am going to make it available online as soon as possible for you to see.

The cover.  I'm in love!

*I continued to shoot lots and lots of lifestyle sessions and My So-Called Life: SENIOR sessions.  These sessions are so fun for me!

Too many to make a full collage, so here is a mini collage.

*Last but not least, the Lord blessed us with a healthy, baby boy.  Sharpe Scott was born on 12.19 and life will never be the same.

Seconds after delivery.

Sharpe's birth announcement.  I can't take all the credit for its cuteness, inspired by Pinterest.

Looking back, I can see the Lord's hand over the timing of our whole year. It was a year where our family and business was forever changed and our blessings were tangible.  He holds us up and I can't wait to see what He has in store for us in 2012!
